Materials compiled by the donor in the course of writing a dissertation,
and donated to the Center for Popular Music in July, 1997.
Personal History:
Ms. McLean is a folklorist. She worked for the National Museum of American
History and the Library of Congress. Her interest in Red Rector developed
into dissertation work. After completing her dissertation, she worked at
CPM from fall of 1996 through the spring of 1997 as field researcher.
Scope and Content:
1.75 linear feet (four upright document boxes) manuscript materials
which include original and copy articles, bibliographies, chapter outlines
and drafts, class papers, correspondence, discographies, dissertation proposal,
notes, and manuscripts, programs, ephemera, interview transcripts, obituaries,
radio station information, recording liner notes, a script, and song lyrics.
The materials constitute McLean's research for her dissertation on the
life and music of Red Rector, and the final draft of her dissertation.
Also included are tapes of interviews that she conducted with various people,
including Rector.
