These tapes were transferred from the Recording Industry Management department to the Center in May 1991.
 

Agency history:

When it was created in July 1986 as part of the state's centers of excellence program, the Center for Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS) became the third center at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), Murfreesboro TN. Its mission, according to CRAS director Chris Haseleu, was to support research in audio engineering and acoustics, to provide educational opportunities in new technology to the University's students, and to help industry professionals in audio technology.

A major component of the Center was a $300,000 recording studio, designed by Bob Todrank, which opened on 12 November 1987. As part of the inauguration of the new studio, CRAS and the Center for Popular Music cosponsored a concert by local rock bands Tabloid Press, Riff Rath and Boulevard Nights. This show took place in the James Union Building on the campus of MTSU where CRAS's studio facility was located.

Because funding problems in the centers of excellence programCRAS was terminated on 1 July 1989.

This group consists of 11 video tapes of the CRAS opening concert along with shots of the new studio and various visitors to the dedication. A log of the tapes, including song titles and names of band members, follows.
