Given to the Center in March 1997 by Mr. Lane Boutwell along with some
transcription discs for copying. The vocalist in the recordings, made ca.
1950, is Boutwell's mother-in-law, Ella Jacobsen, who was about eighty
years old at the time of the recording. Mrs. Jacobsen was born in Cherokee,
Iowa, and learned these folksongs as a child.
Scope and Content:
Six sheets of typed and hand-written lyrics, hand-written music, and
games for children. One notebook, 27 pages, 32 songs. All songs and poems
are apparently copied from other sources and compiled for this class. The
instantaneous sound discs are recordings of unaccompanied vocal renditions
of eighteen selections.
