Biographical
sketch:
Billy Womack, a barber in
Woodbury TN, was a well-known and
well-respected fiddle player. He
won a number of fiddle contests and played professionally with Carl Tipton and
others.
Scope and content:
These jam sessions by
Womack and sundry guitar, bass, and banjo players were taped at various dates
and locations in the Woodbury area. The
only performer other than Womack who can be identified is guitar player Harry
Smith, also of Woodbury, who participated in virtually every session.
The sessions included renditions
of both traditional and popular secular tunes and scattered gospel songs. The performance logs prepared by audio
specialist Bruce Nemerov which follow list all of the tunes played by Womack
and his colleagues.
